New Indiana Business Offers Tropical Lotions, Shampoos, and Beauty Products to Mainland Customers

Midwest Sunkissed, an online retailer founded by former flight attendant Brooke Richards, opened for business this week. The daughter of an Indiana stylist, Richards started the company to share tropical shampoos, lotions, and other beauty products she discovered in her travels around the world.

Westfield, IN (PRWEB) February 18, 2010 — When Brooke Richards began her career as a flight attendant at the age of 18, she brought with her a love of adventure and a solid background in beauty products. Now, ten years later, the daughter of an Indiana salon owner is getting back to her roots by sharing some of the tropical treasures she discovered during her travels with customers back at home.

For Richards, the new business – appropriately named Midwest SunKissed – isn’t so much a company as it is a shared secret. “One of the greatest things about traveling extensively is that you get to find out about all of those hidden treasures that are usually only available to locals who know where to find them,” she says. “Whether it’s a seaside restaurant or a little bakery on an out-of-the-way street, people usually come home from vacation wishing they could have that experience every day. That’s how I feel about the products that Midwest SunKissed carries.”

Richards adds that her online store, www.midwestsunkissed.com, only carries a few brands, which is completely fine with her. “A lot of retailers try to offer everything under the sun. But I just wanted to work with the lotions, scents, shampoos, and oils that I’ve used for years and gotten comfortable with. I want a purchase from Midwest SunKissed to be like taking a recommendation from a friend… not just another business transaction.”

To complete the launch of her business, Richards turned to Indianapolis web design firm MaryDesigns and its owner, Mary Lewis. Once Richards and Lewis decided on a concept – a stylish and retro first-class theme – the challenge was to create an online storefront that wouldn’t just work for shoppers with a variety of different browsers and computer systems, but be fun to use. On that count, Richards is positive they have succeeded. “Not only are there some great photos and images, but anybody who visits the site can share their experiences with us, or just pick up a few beauty and traveling tips, on our interactive blog. We even have a button you can press to call one of our online flight attendants for immediate help.”

The Midwest SunKissed website, which went live at www.midwestsunkissed.com on February 15, carries tropical lotions, tanning creams, shampoos, scents, and other beauty products from several Hawaiian companies, including Maui Babe, Bethany Hamilton, and Moroccainoil.
